(FAM) - a KSB Group plant since 1947 - was put into operation by Grand Duke Jean at the push of a button. With a workforce of around 250 employees and an annual turnover of 330 million LUF, FAM was the largest and most modern grey iron foundry in Luxembourg at the time. The electric smelting plant was officially inaugurated by Grand Duke Jean on Tuesday afternoon, thus completing the expansion of Luxembourg’s most modern foundry. The Grand Duke was welcomed by Jules Dentzer, Mayor of Mersch, and Emile Maroldt, President of the Board of Directors of FAM, who led him into the tent. Other prominent personalities were Marcel Mart, Minister of the Economy; Emile Krieps, Minister of Public Health; Josy Barthel, Commissioner of Water Protection; the Aldermen and Municipal Council of Mersch; Gaston Hoffmann, Director of Banque Internationale; Roger Theisen, President of FEP; Mathias Berns, Secretary General of the Farmers’ Centre; Jean Olinger, Director of the Tax Administration; Charles Risch, District Commissioner; and Alphonse Theato, President of the “Association Luxembourgeoise des Ingénieurs et Industriels”. The Board of Directors of KSB was represented by its Chairman, Dr Hans Kuntze, and his staff. The members of the Board of Directors, the President of the staff delegation, the President of the labour delegation and the members of the ‘Comité Mixte d’Entreprise’ were present from the FAM. The presence of the signing officers Alexandre Solovieff, Roger Haubrich, Felix Flammang and Joseph Kieffer was also noted. After the welcoming address, the Grand Duke was given a tour of the factory halls and inaugurated the electric smelting plant with the first tapping in the presence of the guests. Over an inaugural toast at the Hotel Marisca, Adm. Delegué H. Schlenzig thanked the government and the mayor for their support in the further development of the plant.
