In 1947, the new company was founded with an initial capital of 2 million Luxembourg francs and started production on 1 March 1947 with nine workers and one civil servant. Annual production began with 100 tonnes of raw castings and rose to 1,000 tonnes by 1955 with a workforce of 90 people. By 1972, FAM had manufactured around 600 pumping stations, including numerous submersible pumps, and was heavily involved in projects such as the pumped storage plant in Vianden and the drinking water treatment plant in Esch/Sauer. Modernisation was necessary in order to increase productivity per employee or per working hour, to pay high wages and to make optimum use of the scarce workforce. In addition, the working conditions in the foundry were improved in order to meet the justified demands of the employees. Around half of the castings produced were processed in the company’s own workshop, with the remainder being supplied as raw castings to the KSB Group or other customers. Almost 100% of the production was exported, about 60% of it to Germany.
