Since 1994, SISTO has also been involved in sterile process engineering to produce valves for the pharmaceutical and food industries. Most valves are produced to specific customer requirements rather than for stock, which enables customised production. SISTO is not a mass producer, but instead focusses on the individual needs of its customers. A typical end product is a valve with a rubber diaphragm made of EPDM and laminated film, partly produced on the basis of the company‘s own formulations. The rubber is vulcanised in Echternach and installed as a membrane in the valve. Due to the critical view of peroxide in the drinking water industry, SISTO has developed a peroxide-free rubber. The inside of the valves is lined depending on the medium flowing through, either with a rubber lining or with a powder that is pressed into the valve and sintered. SISTO also carries out research and development in Echternach, utilising the resources of the KSB Group, to which it has belonged since 1988. The KSB Group‘s research department has one of the world‘s largest 3D printers. SISTO utilises the global KSB network for sales, but is developing its own sales force for the sterile technology sector, as this market is different from the one served by KSB. In the pharmaceutical sector, where systems are often designed from scratch, there is a wide range of variants. This diversity means that SISTO manufactures many of the tools for production itself in order to increase speed. Stainless steel forging blanks or bar stock are available for production. This means that even complicated valve blocks can be milled from solid material to avoid weld seams. Each valve is tested for tightness and strength before leaving the factory. Polishing of the valves is done manually to achieve a certain smoothness, followed by electropolishing and cleaning. SISTO supplies customers worldwide, with current large orders from Taiwan and Switzerland. The company offers interesting jobs to young people and works closely with universities. Despite the challenges of recruiting skilled labour and engineers, SISTO is planning to expand its production capacity. According to Managing Director Laschke, the business prospects for SISTO are very good. Im Pharmabereich, wo Anlagen oft von Grund auf neu konzipiert werden, gibt es eine große Variantenvielfalt. Diese Vielfalt führt dazu, dass SISTO viele Werkzeuge für die Produktion selbst herstellt, um die Geschwindigkeit zu erhöhen. Für die Produktion stehen Edelstahlschmiederohlinge oder Stangenmaterial im Rohteilelager zur Verfügung. Somit werden auch komplizierte Ventilblöcke aus Vollmaterial gefräst, um Schweißnähte zu vermeiden. Jedes Ventil wird vor Verlassen des Werks auf Dichtigkeit und Festigkeit geprüft. Das Polieren der Ventile erfolgt manuell, um eine bestimmte Glattheit zu erreichen, gefolgt von Elektropolieren und Reinigung. SISTO beliefert Kunden weltweit, mit aktuellen Großaufträgen aus Taiwan und der Schweiz. Das Unternehmen bietet jungen Leuten interessante Arbeitsplätze und arbeitet eng mit Hochschulen zusammen. Trotz der Herausforderungen bei der Rekrutierung von Facharbeitern und Ingenieuren plant SISTO eine Erweiterung der Produktionskapazität. Die Geschäftsperspektiven für SISTO sind laut Geschäftsführer Laschke sehr gut.
